June 30th marks the end of an era for me and my family. That's the last day of work for our long-time family physician, Dr. James Hartley who is retiring.
Jim came to Wichita from northern Minnesota back in the mid 1970s. When we moved to town from Hutchinson in the early '80s, we were very fortunate to link up with him as our doc.
That's a lot of years, a lot of appointments and a lot of snotty noses.
Dr. Hartley has seen Wanetta and me through the raising of two little kids who are now two adults. He's guided me through three back surgeries...and this summer, an upcoming hip replacement.
And he's always done it with compassion, a sense of humor, and the kind of graciousness that can't be taught in med school.
In the high-tech, high-dollar medical business of 2010, Jim is a bit of a throwback...to the time when the family doctor was someone you trusted, confided in and admired.
My family and I...indeed ALL his patients will miss him.
Thank you, Doctor.
Roger
