Spirit Airlines, known for little leg room, charging for some carry on bags and shockingly cheap fares, begins non-stop service today between O'Hare International Airport and Orlando. Spirit will depart Chicago daily at 7:30 a.m. (arriving 11 a.m.) and leave Orlando at 11:40 a.m. (arriving 1:25 p.m.).
In true spirit Spirit style, the airline is offering its $9 (each way) fares on the Chicago-Orlando route, which calculates to slightly less than $40 round-trip with taxes and fees. That fare, however, is available only to members of the "$9 Fare Club," which costs $59.95 per year. But benefits also include a discount on those pesky checked bag fees. The seats don't get any larger, though.
