EVERETT—
Boeing began building the Boeing 777 at its Everett plant Tuesday, and plans to complete the planes at the aircraft company's fastest rate yet for twin-aisle airplanes, the company said in a statement.
The company plans to build Boeing 777s at a rate of 8.3 airplanes per months, a 20 percent increase over its prior rate of seven per month.
New technologies, including new drilling machines and automated spray-painting equipment, have contributed to the plant's output rate, the company said.
About 1,000 777s are currently in service, and 1,380 have been ordered from 63 customers worldwide.
