The effort to get Doc back in the air has taken a step forward. Doc is the Wichita-built World War II B-29 bomber that's been going through a Wichita-based restoration for several years.
Former Boeing and Spirit leader Jeff Turner Monday announced a new non-profit organization working to finish the restoration and get the plane airworthy.
Doc may be nearly 70 years old, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have any kind of technology.
"I've always been amazed at what they were able to do in the 40's, the airplane had computers in it. The computers were part of the automatic gun system, but the computers were like the old Freeman calculators, with lots of gears," said longtime volunteer Max Parkhurst.
Turner says it will still take another $3-$5 million to get Doc in the air.
