Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach spoke at the annual meeting of the Kansas County Clerks and Election Officials Association in Salina.
The Secure and Fair Elections Act requires a driver’s license or state issued ID to be able to vote and proof of citizenship when registering.
The reacion among the clerks was mixed, some saying that it's not necessary and others saying that it's needed.
According to the law, valid U.S. citizenship documents include:
- U.S. birth certificate
- U.S. Passport
- Any state-issued driver's license with a citizenship indicator
- Naturalization document or verified number
- Bureau of Indian Affairs card
- Consular report of birth
- Certificate of U.S. citizenship
- Birth certificate from U.S. Department of State
- American Indian card
- Adoption decree (with U.S. birthplace)
- Military record of service
- Hospital record of birth
Valid ID documents that polling places will accept include:
- Valid driver's license
- State issued ID card
- U.S. Passport
- Employee ID from city, county, state or federal government or agency
- Concealed carry license
- Military ID
- Public assistance ID card
- Student ID from accredited higher education institution in Kansas
