Activists mobilize against new Kansas voter ID law

(WICHITA, Kan.)—

A group called KanVote is kicking off a statewide campaign against efforts to require proof of citizenship for voters starting in 2012.

Legislation passed earlier this year calls for that portion of the new voter I.D. law to go into effect in 2013, after the presidential election. However, Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach is pushing to implement that requirement starting in March 2012.

KanVote is made up of activists from more than 30 organizations including the League of Women Voters, the Kansas ACLU and Sunflower Community Action.

The group organized a workshop in Wichita on Friday to train volunteers on tactics and strategies to oppose what it calls "new voter suppression measures."

Just today read an article about several people, down South, convicted of voter fraud. I know many applaud Chris Kobach for his courage to stand up for this. I hope all who support him will contact his office to let him know what a good job he is doing. Some groups will spread lies about him and label him this or that, but I think most Americans support this measure. We've been scared into a corner, afraid to be singled out because of ugly words that are unfairly thrown at those who've had the courage to stand up for American citizens. I will no longer remain silent. Good job Chris Kobach!!!

I still fail to see how anyone but a criminal would oppose this measure. Only citizens can vote. Our country allows non-citizens to roam free, and some of those people commit fraud. It has been a requirement for some time now that citizens must possess a form of State or Federal identification on their person at all times when out in public. The states issue "Identity Cards" for those who do not drive, at great expense, to support this.

There is no valid reason why this law would impose on someone's rights. Those who make a considerable amount of money lobbying Congress are the ones who oppose this action. Their names are listed in this article. This law threatens their income stream by actually addressing and resolving a major problem in America today: un-checked dishonesty and theft through our political system. Dishonesty and disinformation flow abundantly from these lobbyist organizations.

All it takes is one election like Florida had a few years ago where they found whole groups of people that were voting using names and addresses of people that had been dead for years, that type of mass voter fraud is all that it takes to make some voters feel like there is no reason to vote.

The state of Florida has strengthend voter registration laws this year like Kansas has done but some in Florida say it doesn't go far enough after what they've already been through.
