We should know tonight whether Wichitans want fluoride in their water. It's been one of the most debated campaign issues this year.
Both supporters and opponents will gather tonight to watch the returns. Eyewitness News reporters Michael Schwanke and Anne Meyer will be covering their watch parties.
Those opposed to fluoridating the water supply include Fluoride Free Kansas and Wichitans Opposed to Fluoridation.
The groups say they are opposed to fluoridation because it is a freedom of choice issue. They also bring up various health concerns, and question the overall benefits of fluoride.
Wichita have voted down water fluoridation at least twice before, in 1964 and 1978. Plus, Wichita City Council members have also voted no on the issue several times in the 1980s and 1990s.
The group "Wichitans for Healthy Teeth" knows it could be a close race. The supporters include mostly doctors and dentists.
Our most recent FactFinder 12 Scientific Survey showed the race within one percentage point, with a large number of undecided voters.
