A petition calling the repeal of Salina’s protections for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people was validated Thursday afternoon.
Our news partners at The Salina Journal report Saline County Clerk Don Merriman accepted 1,321 signatures. He rejected 639 signatures while an additional 478 were not included because they lacked a notary stamp.
The Wichita-based Kansas Family Policy Council and Awaken Salina submitted the petition Tuesday.
The petition calls for the repeal of an ordinance that protects people from discrimination in housing, public accommodations and employment based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
