CHICAGO (KTLA) -- Over 8,000 packages of smoked salmon are being recalled nationwide because of a possible bacteria contamination.
Chicago-based Vita Food Products is recalling its Classic Premium Sliced Smoked Atlantic Salmon after fears the product may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
"To date, no confirmed illnesses or complaints have been reported by customers, although the company is closely monitoring the situation," the company said in a statement Friday.
If consumed, the bacteria can be fatal to children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems.
The company says the salmon was sold throughout the country.
