(TOPEKA, Kan.)—
The KBI says an officer impersonator has struck again - this time in Colorado.
Investigators say Robert Helms targeted a grocery store in Walsh, Colorado, about 18 miles from the Kansas border, on Wednesday.
Helms showed employees a fake law enforcement officer badge which said “Adams County/Deputy Sheriff” on it. There is no Adams County in Kansas.
KBI investigators say Helms has made at least 23 attempts to pass bad checks in Kansas. They believe he will try and continue the trend in the southwest Kansas and southeast Colorado area in the next few days.
