The former Greenwood County undersheriff is charged with 20 counts of sexually exploiting a minor.
Prosecutors say Patrick Romans was in possession of child pornography in January. He was arrested in Lyon County and faces charges in Greewood County.
The Greenwood County sheriff says Romans resigned from his position February 24, 2012. He had worked at the sheriff's department since September 2003.
Romans will make his first court appearance on Wednesday. The Kansas Attorney General's Office is handling the case.
