A 31-year-old man is in custody after breaking into a home and getting into a fight with the homeowner this morning.
Wichita police say a 42-year-old man was sleeping in his home in the 3300 block of N. Jeannette when he was awoken by a noise at around 1:30 am. He got up and found a burglar going through his things.
The man confronted the burglar, who grabbed a metal bar and struck the victim. That's when the victim grabbed a stick by he keeps by his bed (He refers to it as his "Ugly Stick") and beat the burglar.
The burglar managed to get away with some of the victim's property and his jacket. Police caught up with him a short time later. He was wearing the victim's jacket which contained property stolen from the house.
No one was seriously hurt. The suspect faces aggravated burglary and aggravated battery charges.
