A 37-year-old man is arrested after attacking a hospital employee after being discharged. It happened Monday morning at Via Christi on St. Francis.
Police tell Eyewitness News a patient was in the process of being discharged when he went to a main lobby area and grabbed a female employee by the neck. The man demanded her car keys and cell phone.
Hospital security was called in. The man held the woman for a short time indicating he had a gun inside a pillowcase. Once security realized he was bluffing, they moved in and took the man into custody.
Police say the suspect has a history of mental health issues. He was originally admitted to the hospital for treatment of injuries stemming from a fight over Easter weekend.
Sherry Hausmann, President of Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis released a statement Tuesday saying, “While regrettable, the incident was contained quickly and without physical harm to patients, visitors and staff. We applaud the efforts of our security team members in ensuring the safety of everyone concerned.”
No one was hurt.
