The Wichita Police Department and Crime Stoppers have doubled the reward for information leading to an arrest in a cold case homicide.
Crime Stoppers is focusing on a different cold case each week through the end of the year in hopes of encouraging residents to come forward with information.
This week, the focus is on the death of 19-year-old Justin Cook who died in 2009. Police say on the evening of January 25, 2009, Cook attended a party at the Cambridge Suites hotel in the 700 block of South Main St.
A second party was also being held at the same location. A fight broke out in the hotel parking lot between several rival gang members who were attending both parties. As Cook and his girlfriend were leaving the party an unknown suspect fired one shot at his vehicle, striking him in the face. Cook was rushed to the hospital where he died a short time later.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Crime Stoppers either by phone at 316-267-2111, by text message by sending their tip to CRIMES (274637) and beginning their text message with TIP217, or on the web at www.wsccs.com. You don't even have to give your name.
