A rude awakening for a northeast Sedgwick County couple. A car being chased by authorities crashed through the Christmas decorations in their yard and rammed their gas meter.
It all started around 3 o'clock Tuesday morning when a Butler County Deputy tried to pull a car over for speeding. That car led the deputy on a chase along K-254, but ended up getting away on a dirt road.
A Sedgwick County Sheriff's Deputy found the vehicle a short time later near Kechi and followed it into a neighborhood.
Authorities say the driver and a passenger bailed out of the truck while it was still moving. The truck then went up into a yard, flattened a giant inflatable Santa decoration and crashed into a gas meter.
The gas started leaking and needed to be shut off. The woman who lives in the home tells us she and some neighbors were evacuated as a precaution.
"I was woken up, we were told to evacuate and I came out. Big truck in the front yard. Cops there and there, had no idea what was going on," said homeowner Deborah Wainscott.
The driver and a passenger were arrested.
No one was hurt.
