With help from the public, the Belle Plaine Police Department has identified the man suspected of impersonating an officer.
Tuesday, police posted a surveillance photo of the suspect to warn area businesses. Chief Gordon Fell says a tip led them to identify the suspect.
He says the suspect has gone around the state telling people he's from Adams County Kansas. There is no such place in the state.
When he goes into businesses, he says he needs to cash a check but police say the check is fake.
The suspect is not yet in police custody.
