The Kansas Court of Appeals has reversed the conviction of a former Buhler debate coach.

A jury convicted Richard Young in 2008 for sexually molesting a 15-year-old South Korean exchange student. The student was living in Young's home.

The court ruled the judge improperly admitted evidence that Young sexually abused his stepsons more than 30 years before. The court said the evidence tainted the jury.

The court ordered the case back to Reno County for a new trial.

District Attorney Keith Schroeder says he will appeal the ruling to the Kansas Supreme Court. He tells Eyewitness News that the justices are already reviewing similar cases.

The father of the boy filed a lawsuit accusing Young and the company who arranged the exchange program of negligence. All sides reached a settlement in the suit.
