A Wichita man accused of keeping more than 100 pitbulls tied to chains and starving has been sentenced.
Jerry Southern pleaded guilty Monday to five counts of cruelty to animals. He was sentenced to 90 days in jail and ordered to pay $10,000 to three animal rights organizations, including $2,500 to the organization that took many of the dogs that were rescued from the property.
Southern was charged with 70 counts of felony animal cruelty. Kay County officials discovered the 106 dogs in Jerry Southern's care after recieving a tip in December of 2008.
Southern told police he had been feeding the dogs a handful of food a day.
Southern was banned from owning pitbulls in the state of Kansas five years ago. Southern's bond was reduced from $250,000 to $50,000. He's still in jail.
