A man wanted by Kansas authorities for impersonating a police officer has been captured on new surveillance video.
Officials have been looking for Robert Helms, 45, since he targeted two stores in Belle Plaine last week.
Chief Gordon Fell, Belle Plaine Police, said investigators believe Helms has been impersonating police and cashing fraudulent checks all over the state. Police have video of him passing the checks off at various businesses, but now he is targeting small town retail stores.
Helms recently hit an Alco store where surveillance video caught him flashing a badge and trying to cash a check. The discount chain said it lost $5,000 after several different transactions.
Helms is wanted and has a criminal history of forgery, theft and kidnapping. He was released from prison last fall, but has not reported to his parole officer since October 2012.
Police consider him armed and dangerous and don't want anyone to confront him. Anyone with information is asked to call the police.
