Thirteen people are in custody after a morning drug bust. It happened around 6:30 at the Mark 8 Motel in the 1100 block of North Broadway.
Police say the arrests are the result of months of undercover work. Wichita Police Captain Jeff Easter says officers have been working undercover at the motel for three months. He says drugs were being sold in the rooms and in the hallways.
Friday morning, seven search warrants were carried out, resulting in the 13 arrests. Police say the found cocaine, marijuana and cash.
Easter adds that at least four of the arrests were people who had sold drugs to undercover officers in the past few months.
Police were tipped off by people visiting relatives at nearby Via Christi on St. Francis and people living in the area.
Steven Forsythe, General Manager of the motel, tells Eyewitness News he's been trying to clean up the motel since he took over a year ago.
"I try to work closely with the police department, and at the same time, I've tried to instruct my desk clerks at night, when I'm not here, that if you see something you call the police."
Easter says they'll be looking into whether any staff may have been involved in the sales.
Forsythe adds, "No one looks for this kind of publicity, but at the same time, it has been long overdue and it sends a message to the people not doing the right thing - this is not the place, move it along, go somewhere else."
