Neighbors say it's hard to comprehend their neighbor is dead. Now police say the death of a 73-year-old man, is a case of homicide. Robert Newman's brother found him dead Sunday afternoon.
“It was just a shock. We didn't hear anything, see anything unusual,” said White.
But on Sunday afternoon, 73 year old Robert Newman's home was a crime scene. Conrad Newman found his brother dead with a gunshot wound to the head.
“The victim's brother had come over the house which is a Sunday ritual. He brings food over to the house and visits with his brother,” said Lt. Todd Ojile of the Wichita Police Department.
Since then neighbors have watched detectives go in and out of the house. Police say they found no sign of forced entry and no one has a clue as to who would kill him. His neighbors knew him as Bob- a friendly guy who loved to fix things.
“There are cars that come, ones that I've seen before, picking up a part .Who would want to hurt him?” asks White.
Robert and Nancy White have lived next door to Newman for 30 years. They say Newman was a cheerful man. He was always tinkering with different projects in the yard.
“He's usually in the front yard with neighbors. It's going to be kind of lonesome without him,” said neighbor Robert White.
He also had a tendency to hoard things in his house. Now investigators have a large task going through it all.
“There's a lot of stuff in his house and it's going to be very difficult to tell whether anything is missing,” said Lt. Ojile.
Eyewitness news contacted the victim's brother, Conrad Newman, but Newman wasn't ready to go on camera. He says he wants to focus on his brother and family. If you have any information, call police.
