Two suspects are being held on first degree murder charges for the death of 69 year-old Loyce Cody. Both the male and female suspects are 19 years old.
"This was a very kind woman who didn't deserve what she got," Augusta Police Chief Tyler Brewer said.
While at Cody's home, police noticed the victim’s four-door, metallic blue 2010 Toyota Corolla was missing and began searching for it. Authorities were investigating a separate incident, a burning car in Southwest Butler County when they saw Cody's vehicle drive by.
"We think there's some ties to that vehicle that was set afire," said Butler County Sheriff Kelly Herzet.
Police followed and it turned into a chase. The chase went on for 15-20 miles and reached speeds of 100 miles per hour.
Butler County authorities say formal charges are expected after they present the case to the county attorney. They are scheduled to make their first apperance Wednesday afternoon.
Authorities say the suspects are homeless but somehow knew victim. They wouldn't comment on how Cody was killed or a possible motive.
Friends and neighbors say one of the suspects is Cody's grandchild. Police would not confirm this.
