Hutchinson Police say an autopsy revealed Jennifer Heckel died from two gunshot wounds. She was found dead inside her home Tuesday night.
The police are still investigating what happened and are currently talking with person's of interest. There are no suspects at this time but police say they don't believe this was a random act of violence. "We don't have any indication there's someone out there randomly doing something," Police Chief Dick Heitschmidt said.
Around seven o'clock Tuesday evening neighbor called police to report the sound of a gunshots.
Once police arrived, they found Heckel dead and her five-year-old son alive. Wednesday investigators focused much of their attention on the tree row next to Heckel's house. They cut down trees and used a metal detector. "They are looking for details of what may have happened, any other evidence that may be there, looking for everything," said Hutchinson Police Chief Dick Heitschmidt.
Family friend Andrea Leiker says everyone who knew Heckel is struggling with her loss. She says Heckel's husband and son need prayers right now. Heckel's husband was out of town on business with Leiker's husband when he received the news. They are an amazing close wonderful family and it shouldn't have happened," she said.
A memorial fund is set up to help Heckel's husband and son.
