Thieves break into one west Wichita home and get away with several valuables.

The homeowner says she thinks they were targeted...now she wants to be proactive and possibly save her neighbors from the same situation.

"It's a really scary thing to know that someone's been in your house and to know they have your keys," says Debbie Cenatiempo.

She says thieves broke into their home saturday night shortly after she and her husband left for dinner. They got a call that their alarm was going off.

When they pulled up they found their front door open and the window next to it shattered. the thieves were gone---and they were missing a few things.

"They took the my jewelry box, the keys to our house and my husband's keys to the mustang," she says.

Debbie thinks the thieves targeted her family after watching their house and their movements.

She says police tell her these types of burglaries have been happening frequently in west Wichita.

"Each time they have someone call, it's pretty much the same thing, somebody breaks into a window near a door, runs in grabs jewelry and runs out.

Wichita police dusted for prints and are working to gather clues but Debbie is warning her neighbors in her own way.

"I think the best safety measure is to just make everyone aware, communication is key. That's why I did it and went door to door to let everyone know," she says displaying a flier she made for her neighbors.  It details the burglary.

Wichita crime statistics show that home burglaries have gone up in the city and rural areas.
