A Wichita homeowner runs after a purse thief, who is now in the hospital. During the chase, the suspect was hit by a car on I-135.
"I chased him over the bridge and thats when he crossed the street at the light," said homeowner Willy Hall. "Thats when I stopped the lady in the car and told her to call 911."
Hall showed us where he chased the suspect Thursday night, but the crime started inside Hall's home on South Kansas.
The suspect opened the unlocked front door and grabbed a purse sitting next to Hall's 8-year old son, Cade. Cade tried to grab the purse back
"My son started screaming, somebody stole your purse, some man came in here and stole your purse," Hall said. "And the chase was on."
Hall ran after the suspect for a few blocks and ended up near Harry and I-135.
"I got down the hill, and seen him cross 135 and then lady just smashed him," Hall said
Police say the suspect suffered a broken leg, 4 broken ribs and a collapsed lung.
Hall stayed with the suspect until emergency crews arrived. Had he got away, Hall says the suspect would have been disappointed.
"My wife don't carry cash, there was nothing in it but credit cards," Hall said. "She was on the computer by the time the police got over here cancelling the credit cards and everything."
Hall got the purse back, but he's more thankful his wife and kids are okay. He says the family will make sure their front door is locked from now on.
When the suspect is released, police say he will be arrested on robbery and theft charges.
