Whenever I can turn a Does It Work story into a wine testing, I've done my job!
If you're like me, you may always sip your red wines at room temperature. However, some wine experts say certain bottles should be enjoyed at "cellar temperature"---which is about 10-15 degrees cooler.
The $50 Ravi wine chiller says it will bring that bottle down a notch, in degrees, to that optimum temp. The device inserts into the wine bottle and is supposed to chill the vino as it pours from the bottle to the glass.
The gang at Jacob Liquor agree to try it out for us. We appreciate their sacrifice!
Step one: Chill the cartridge in the freezer for at least two hours.
Step two: Snap the two parts together (don't kink the rubber gasket).
Step three: Put it in the opening on the wine bottle and pour!
Just one sip and our wine lovers have their answer.
The wine is at least 10 degrees cooler than room temperature. All three agree it makes the pinot noir they're drinking better! They say it's "brighter and crisper."
One downside: The three laughed that the gray cartridge sticking out of the bottle didn't do much for the ambiance.
And they said they'd never had to mention the word "rubber gasket" and glass of wine in the same sentence.
But, Does It Work?
They all say yes!
