Everyone wants to "go green" when they can. But are you willing to wash your clothes without laundry detergent to do that?
KFDI's Brian and Kellie say they'll sacrifice a load of laundry to find out if the GreenWashBall really works---or is just all wet. The ball is made of heavy duty rubber and filled with ceramic pellets. The friction of the beads is supposed to increase the pH of the water in your water to get stains out.
We paid $30 for it, and another $10 in shipping and handling. The makers claim it will do one load of laundry a day for three years.
We pull in some dirty socks, jeans and washcloths. Each wash cloth has one of the following on it: spaghetti sauce, mustard, grass stains, dirt, makeup, chocolate or jelly. The dirty clothes go in the washer, along with the GreenWashBall.
Kellie washes the load on hot with the longest cycle. But when she pulls them out, she's disappointed. All but one of the stains are still there, and the socks and jeans aren't what she calls clean.
Just to be sure, we do two more loads of washcloths in the same hot water and long cycle.
The results are the same. Brian and Kellie can identify what the stains are even after washing. They both say the GreenWashBall doesn't work.
We called the company to try to get their reaction to our test. Despite calling twice and e-mailing as well, they never returned our contact.
