If your closet is stuffed with clothes than you'd like, you need a "wonder"-ful idea.
Wonder Hangers?
The plastic, drop-down devices are supposed to triple the space in your closet. We headed to the smallest closets we know of: dorm rooms!
Wichita State student Aleasha agrees to let us invade her closet. Each Wonder Hanger holds 5 hangers, so she pulls out five pieces of summer clothing and five pieces of heavier, winter clothes.
When they hang on the regular closet rod, the summer clothes are about 3 inches thick. The winter clothes are about 6 1/2 inches thick.
Aleasha puts those some clothes on two Wonder Hangers and drops down the end. She's impressed. The top of the closet appears to have much more space.
Until she gets out the measuring tape again.
The summer clothes are actually just a little thicker than when they hung on the rod. The clothes hang lower than before, but all five pieces of clothing still meet at the midsection of the rod. And the situation is the same for the winter clothes.
Aleasha does the math and says the hangers don't really save space overall.
Just to be sure, we repeat the same test with two of her friends. Like Aleasha, they think the Wonder Hangers work at first. But they change their mind when they measure the clothes at the lower spot where they all meet.
All three testers give the the Wonder Hanger the thumbs down.
We contacted the company to get its reaction. It says it sells multiple Wonder Hangers in one box because they are designed to work together. It says it saves more space the more hangers you use.
One of our testers, Zach, says if you want your clothes to hang in a cool-looking way, it works. If you want to save space, he says it doesn't.
