Chef Artaynia Westfall knows how important a good knife is. And she knows how bad a dull blade can be. “It’s frustrating!”
What about a knife made out of ceramic? The Yoshi Blade claims it won’t rust, is sharp and will stay that way longer than your stainless steel knives.
That is the “Good” list.
The “Do Not” list it comes with is a lot longer.
“Do not use on frozen food. Do not use on hard cheeses. Do not bend or twist,” Artaynia reads. “There are a lot of ‘do nots’ the average home owner would probably do.”
But as she starts using it to cut an apple, she’s impressed. It makes precision cuts and does a better job than she expects. Even though it may look like a plastic play knife, it’s extremely sharp. Will that help her slice through other food?
“This is one you’d have to put a lot of force into,” she says, slicing a piece of raw meat. She gives it a thumbs down for meat.
But it’s a different story when she reaches for a soft, ripe tomato.
“Look at that! A clean cut! It’s going through it like butter!”
Maybe a little too much. The plastic mat she’s using under the food is very cut up. The Yoshi is slicing through it as well as the meat and veggies.
Next up is the toughest challenge of all: freshly baked bread.
The Yoshi blade does cut through it, but Artaynia has to brace the loaf and take her time slicing it. It’s a lot more work than her serrated knife, which easily cuts through it.
Despite that, she still likes the Yoshi Blade for kitchen prep work.
“It definitely works! It will cut up things. Maybe not what you’re wanting to cut up!” she laughs.
