Students spend a lot of time listening to educators. ON Wednesday some Wichita students had a chance to talk back -- in a polite way, of course.
Wichita Superintendent John Allison meets with a group of high school students each month.
Twice a year, those students invite ten others from each of their schools.
Allison says, "We're going to the source...all of us exist for these students."
The meetings are not just to socialize, but to answer important questions.
Such as what teachers can do to make the learning environment better and how to improve school spirit.
West senior Ciara Marshall tells us, "You get to know other people and you get to know their school and what they do different from yours and what's the same and you just kind of feed off of that and you learn"
After an hour of discussion in small groups, the students get to tell educators what they think.
"They're very open and they've very honest and you're never quite exactly sure what feedback you're going to get", says Allison.
But do the officials really pay attention to the feedback?
Allison answers, "It's been incredibly beneficial particularly with some of the tough decisions we've had to make over the last few years from boundaries and budgets and the students input has been valuable in that decision making".
And what do the students get out of it?
According to Marshall, "It makes you feel good about your school and about representing your school when you have other people wanting to come in and join what you have going on and be a part of what you're doing"
