The nation learned who won the presidential race before people in Sedgwick County saw a single result posted from local elections. FactFinder 12 has learned Secretary of State Kris Kobach's is now sending a team to investigate issues with Sedgwick County election results.
"That's very sad. I think we owe that to the residents of Sedgwick County. This is unacceptable," says Bob Dool, chairman of the Sedgwick County Republican Party. "I think the circumstances call for a thorough review of the office," adds Dool.
Similar problems happened in the August primary. Sedgwick County Election Commissioner Tabitha Lehman told Eyewitness News going into election night that she was confident the problem had been fixed.
Lehman didn't tell news outlets until 10:30 p.m. there was a problem with the software although her office knew about it two hours earlier. "It was somewhere between 8:30 and 9:00 and we realized we were going to have the same issue again," says Lehman.
She also explained what happened. "Because of redistricting we had to change the database and I think we put something in incorrectly. We're going to go through that with the vendor," adds Lehman.
The first results weren't posted in Sedgwick County until close to eleven o'clock Tuesday night. Final results weren't posted until after 1:30 in the morning.
