The events that led-up to Monday night's chase and shooting are marked in court documents and Jason Perez's criminal background.
Jason Perez was booked into Sedgwick County Jail on Attempted First Degree Murder charges on Wednesday. He had been hospitalized since being shot during the incident on Monday.
November 2012, Perez was sentenced in Johnson County on felony criminal theft and drug charges.
Fifteen days later, he was released from jail. The Johnson County Department of Corrections said he was sentenced to serve 12 months probation, with several conditions.
"In this case, the judge specified no firearms, removing all guns from the home and the vehicle, no alcohol, no drugs, no contact with the witness to that incident,” said Betsy Gillespie, Johnson County Department of Corrections.
Perez was scheduled to meet with his probation officer for the first time, Dec. 18. But he never showed.
"He never reported to us," Gillespie said. "We never had the opportunity to try to change his behavior."
Just days after missing his probation appointment, Perez was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He was also cited for other driving violations. Perez wasn't kept in custody for long. That's because the paperwork to revoke his probation hadn't been processed yet.
In other words, if the paperwork had gone through, Perez could have been in jail, instead of in Sedgwick County Monday night.
By the time of Monday's chase and shooting, the Johnson County Department of Corrections said Perez finally had at least two warrants out for his arrest.
The other suspect in the shooting, Clara Crosser, was booked into Butler County jail after the incident on Monday. She has since been moved to the Sedgwick County Jail.
Both are being held on $1,000,000 bond.
