A bill in the Kansas Senate could mean another chance for slot machines at the Wichita Greyhound Park. The track closed after a 2007 vote to allow slots failed.
Owner Phil Ruffin said revenue from slots is the only way the track can re-open.
The bill requires a petition with signatures from at least 5,000 Sedgwick County voters for a special election. It spells out wording for the ballot question, which specifies that slots would go in at just the racetrack. Some supporters said the 2007 ballot question was unclear.
A Senate committee will have the first debate on the bill, but Governor Sam Brownback has said he thinks lawmakers have more important issues to discuss than expanded gambling.
