New York tops the list. Nearly half of a single mom's income goes to child care there.
Kansas is 7th on the list of least affordable states. The report by Child Care Aware of America says 35% of a single mother's income in Kansas goes to child care. More than 11% of a two parent family's income goes to child care expenses.
Fact Finder 12 breaks down the cost to Kansans further. The average cost for an infant in a day care center is more than $11,000. The average care for a 4-year-old in daycare is $8,300. It costs more than $6,000 to put a school age child in day care.
