Pictures: Soccer Night In Newtown

If the number of stars from Major League Soccer and the U.S. men's and women national teams and the number of joyful smiles that lit up this early January night are used to quantify that mission, Soccer Night in Newtown was a grand success. They signed autographs for more than 1,000 Newtown kids and their families over two sessions. They broke down into soccer games. There were giant inflatables to romp in. Read more.

Newtown, CT 1/07/2013 Newtown families were be able to meet Major League Soccer and US national team players Monday night during a Soccer Night held at the Newtown Youth Academy Sports & Fitness Center in Newtown. Players signed autographs, there were interactive soccer-based games and activities for kids and families. Chris Canetti, Houston Dynamo team president and a native of Guilford wanted to do something for the town and it grew into a big event. Hermann Trophy winner Marcus Tracy, who grew up in Newtown, and now plays in the MLS, was on of about 35 players who met approximately 1000 kids at the event. Marcus Taylor talked to members of the audience during a question and answer session.
