A Marine from Laurel was killed Friday in Afghanistan, the Pentagon said Saturday night.
Lance Cpl. Eugene C. Mills III, 21, died in combat in Helmand province, the Pentagon said.
He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
Mills is the fifth service member from Maryland killed this year, and the fourth to die in Afghanistan.
