(WICHITA, Kan.)—
For the first time since it opened, the INTRUST Bank Arena is in the red. The third quarter financial report was released Wednesday, and it shows the arena's net income through September is -$219,417.But arena management SMG and the county aren't concerned.
The arena only had one concert and 4 other events in its third quarter, which impacted ticket sales. But attendance numbers were up 20,982 guests over this time last year, for a total attendance of 52,116 from July through September.
"They've had a number of good family shows, (they) just have lower attendance and lower ticket prices" said Assistant County Manager Ron Holt. "So you don't get the same kind of financial reward."
Holt knows the county won't get a big profit check this year, but it won't lose money either. The arena's management company eats any loss it has under the agreement.
The arena does expect to be back in the black by the end of the year.
