Seattle's iconic needle is, temporarily, getting a fresh look. And its new design will be voted on by the public.

Officials are encouraging the public to go to the Seattle Space Needle's website and vote on six different roof designs. The winning design in the Top Off Our 50th contest will be painted atop the Space Needle for six months.

The contest is being held to celebrate the Space Needle's 50th Anniversary. The Space Needle opened in 1962, the iconic landmark of the World's Fair in Seattle.

The final designs were picked from a group of about 500 entries. Those interested in voting can vote once a day through Oct. 20. The top vote getter will be announced Oct. 21.
