COVINA (KTLA) -- A San Gabriel man is in custody Friday on suspicion of stealing from parked cars at a cemetery.
Tommy James Lopez, 34, was spotted Thursday morning stealing from a woman's car as she was visiting a grave at Forest Lawn Memorial-Park and Mortuary on 21300 East Via Verde Street.
The witness notified a security guard who followed Lopez until a California Highway Patrol officer came by and took him into custody.
Los Angeles County Sheriff's officials believe Lopez may be connected to at least four similar crimes in the last two months at the cemetery. In those cases, the thief also targeted women who left their cars unlocked.
A search of his property found he was in possession of several items believed to be taken in those burglaries.
Lopez was booked on suspicion of petty theft and is being held on $52,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
