CARIBOU, Maine -- Police have arrested a 30 year old mother accused of sexually molesting her own child and transmitting the assault live on the internet.

Thirty-year-old Julie Carr is charged Monday with gross sexual assault and sexual exploitation of a minor.

She's being held in the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton, on the Canadian border about 120 miles north of Bangor.

She appeared in Superior Court in Caribou by video conference but didn't enter a plea.

Carr was arrested Friday after a tip from police in Britain's West Midlands about video that had been streamed online showing a woman performing sex acts on a child.

Investigators discovered during a search of another suspect's computer that a woman, later determined to be Carr, had used her webcam to broadcast live videos of her assault on her child.

The statement from West Midlands police said the child in the video was Carr's own and that she is the mother of four children, believed to range in age from 18 months to 5 years old.

They have since been placed into protective custody.

A judge set bond at $100,000 in property or $50,000 cash.

The defendant has no attorney and can't be reached for comment at the jail.

Carr is next due in court Sept. 18. She could face up to 30 years in prison for each felony count.
