SANTA CLARITA (KTLA) -- It's big, it's green, and it's coming to a town near you.

The National Christmas Tree has embarked on a media tour of it's own, making its way across the country before it will spend the holiday season on U.S. Capitol Building's front lawn.

The 65-foot White Fir was selected from the Stanislaus National Forest and is making its way down the West Coast.

It stopped in Castaic and Santa Clarita Saturday and at the Autry Museum in Griffith Park Sunday.

Spectators ready to experience the holiday cheer can still catch a glimpse of the tree Monday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Victoria Gardens Mall in Rancho Cucamonga before it continues on its 23-day trip across the U.S.

Before being erected in Washington, D.C., the specially-wrapped tree continue on through New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, North Carolina, Virginia and Pennsylvania.

It is set to be lit on Dec. 6.

7-year-old Johnny Crawford from Sonora, Calif. has been chosen to light the tree along with Speaker John Boehner. Crawford was selected by a random drawing, and happens to be from the same area as the tree.

This is the fourth time in the past 41 years that the tree has been selected from California.

"Most people seem to think California is Hollywood, and a few people know San Francisco but I don't think they understand the extent that the Sierra and forests are part of California," said California Secretary for Natural Resources John Laird.
