INGLEWOOD, Calif. (KTLA) -- A wheelchair-bound man was found shot to death in a driveway near his recently vandalized apartment.
Family members say 48-year-old Sergio Velez was looking for whoever had thrown a flower pot through the sliding glass door of the apartment he shared with his wife, sons and grandchildren on the 1000 block of Myrtle Avenue.
Vandals also left graffiti on the walls outside the building.
Det. Loyd Waters says Velez "came out to try to locate the people that did the graffiti and was shot."
Waters added that there is currently no suspect information, and called on the support of the public in hopes of finding a witness.
Investigators say Velez was found on the 900 block of Osage Avenue, three blocks from his apartment around 2:20 a.m. Sunday.
Velez had been shot in the head and the chest, police said.
Anyone with information is urged to call Inglewood Police at (310) 412-5240 or the 24-hour anonymous hotline, at 888-41-CRIME.
