8 Wonders: Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve

August 16, 2007

George and I can't seem to catch a break, two out of three trips so far have had a few minor problems. Our trip to the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve started out great.  We headed there from the Chase County Courthouse which is only ten minutes away.  It had taken us about an hour and 15 minutes using Highway 50 to get to Chase County.

Once we arrived, George caught a ride with the tour bus and I drove behind so we could have a car.  After hanging out with the group, we stayed behind to shoot more video.  Of course not five minutes later it started pouring.  George and I headed back to the visitors center hoping the rain would let up.  It never did.

George said he didn't have enough video, so he decided to go back the following weekend.  I wasn't aware of this until he called me while I was working on a Saturday.  He said he had a flat tire and was stranded in the middle of the Flint Hills.  I had been there the week before and was impressed by the awesome view, you can't see any civilization.  But that became a problem for George because he didn't know how to get help since his jack broke.

I was able to call the director who sent out someone to help.  After a few more car issues, George got the video he needed and made it back to Wichita!
