Two people made it out safely after their Wichita home caught fire Tuesday afternoon. Some people in the area noticed a fire on a porch in the 1600 block of N. Jackson.
The people went to the back of the house and beat on the back door. Two people in their 70's were already getting ready to leave. Once they were out, the front of the house became fully involved in flames.
Firefighters arrived and tried to put out the fire. Strong winds forced the flames to move more quickly than they would have liked. They also say the the age and construction of the home made it difficult to get to hot spots.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated but it's considered a total loss.
The American Red Cross was called in to assist the family.
