(Sumner County, Kan.)—
A casino just opened up near-by and soon new oil jobs may be coming to town, but Sumner County Commissioners don't want adult businesses to move in as well.That's why commissioners recently changed laws to make it harder for adult entertainment to move in.
"You can't be fully nude, there is no hands-on contact," said Sumner County Planning and Zoning Director Jon Bristor. "You have to be so many feet away from individual, we adopted no alcohol in that establishment as well."
Plus potential owners face a licensing fee, background check and can only operate from 6am to midnight. Bristor said the county got help from Tennessee attorney Scott Bergthold. He's assisted other communities with similar issues.
"In the regulation of adult businesses, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure," Bergthold said.
Sumner county had nothing on the books when it came to this type of entertainment until 2006, and more changes are coming.
"Our next step is zoning regulations," Bristor said.
Similar laws have changed in Jefferson county,.in Northeast Kansas,.near the Prairie Band Casino in Meriden.
