If you believe in the Mayan calendar, the end of the world will happen at Midnight Thursday. But few Kansans seem to be preparing for doomsday.
Morgan Stafford of Illinois is stocking up supplies. He's part of a growing group of people across the country preparing to survive the end of the world.
"The first thing anyone is going to need is the radios, we've got a bunch of them," Stafford said.
But for those who handle everyday emergencies in Wichita, there is no plan in place for friday's apocalypse.
"It is a normal day in our world, we are going to have normal staffing," said Sedgwick County Emergency Communications Director Randy Bargdill.
Still, Bargdill thinks his dispatchers might get a few calls about the Mayan calendar prediction since they tend to calls about everything at 911..
"We got at least 20 telephone calls today just letting us know that there was ice on the streets," Bargdill said.
Over at Lucky's on Douglas, workers are preparing for the end of the world...party.
"We are going to have Carrie Nation and the Speakeasy playing, as well as three different DJs" said Lucky's bartender Charli Lauer.
Several bars around town see the profit in this last day on earth prediction. Plus the day after, many are planning a survivors party.
"On Saturday we have a survivor shot, I can't remember the price of that right now," Lauer said. "It is really delicious, I made it myself."
Lets just hope someone gets to try it.
