Wichita's City Council decides to postpone a vote on choosing new District 4 candidate. That vote will now be held January 15.
Four candidates were vying for Michael O'Donnell's vacant council seat, but now there are only three. O'Donnell left the seat in December to take on his new duties as a Kansas Senator.
Candidate Josh Blick backed out Tuesday morning. Another candidate, Stan Reeser changed his plans and will not run in the April election. Council members wanted more time to consider the new information before choosing an interim council person.
Potential candidate Jeff Blubaugh is now the only remaining candidate that plans to run for seat in April. Paul Gray will not run. Even though Blick backed out, he still plans to run for the official seat in April.
Whoever the council chooses next Tuesday will be sworn in immediately and will begin voting for District 4 right away. Since that's the plan, the three remaining candidates will receive agenda packets to study next week's issues.
This person chosen by the council will only hold the position until April. That's what the next city council election will be held and voters will choose a permanent council member.
