A Wichita mail carrier got the best delivery ever when a local donut shop owner wrote to say she'd found his wallet with $1,300 in cash inside.

Sometime during his route September 5th, Russ Fox lost his wallet.  He didn't know where it happened, but when he returned to the Munger Post Office at 13th & Oliver it was gone.  The cash was supposed to be used for Fox's house payment.  He feared someone at work might have stolen it from a locker.

"i just couldn't believe anybody could do it," he said.

For nearly a month Fox went about his work delivering mail in and around College Hill.  Until finally last Saturday, the mailman got a letter of his own.

"Mr. Fox, please stop by the donut shop we have something for you.  Bring your I.D.," the letter read.

It was written by Tricia Davis, owner of Flying Donuts on East Central.

"He had a lot of Benjamins," Davis said laughingly.

The business owner said another customer found the wallet on the counter and turned it in.

Davis was unable to locate the the owner by phone and waited a couple of weeks, expecting the man would retrace his steps back to her shop.  It never happened.

"I was raised to give back something to the person it belongs to," Davis said.

Her good deed was rewarded with a hearty smile and thank you from Fox and spike in business following a feature in the Wichita Eagle.

"We had triple the customers that we normally have on Fridays," Davis said.  She started turning away customers Friday with a free donut voucher around 9:30 a.m.  "We just couldn't make enough donuts," she said.

"The generosity, the honesty was just unbelievable," said Fox.  "I never would have believed it."

Fox told Eyewitness News he addressed coworkers at the Post Office who had taken up a collection to help him pay bills after the cash went missing.  He thanked them for their generosity and promised to repay them somehow.
