High clouds will be on the increase today and so will the wind, as an approaching storm system moves into the Rockies and closer to Kansas.  The southerly winds will be gusting to 25-30 m.p.h. during the afternoon.  It will be mild, much like yesterday, however the winds will make it feel chilly.

The storm in the West takes aim on Kansas for Sunday night and Monday.  We'll see a light wintry mix transition to some light to moderate snow starting early Monday.  At this time, it appears the band of moderate snow accumulation is possible over parts of central, northeastern Kansas.  2-4 inches of accumulation is possible along and north of Wichita, with lighter amounts in far southern and western Kansas.  The impact this storm system will have on holiday travel in the form of snow packed roadways will be a problem New Year's Eve through New Year's Day.  A Winter Weather Advisory has been posted for most of central Kansas from 6 A.M. Monday until midnight. 

Temperatures will remain cold through the middle of next week.

Today:  Partly cloudy to mostly cloudy by afternoon, windy and mild.  Wind: S 20-30; gusty.  High: 45.

Tonight:  Cloudy with a chance of a wintry mix by early morning.  Wind: S 10-15.  Low: 30.

Monday:  Cloudy with a light wintry mix changing to light snow.  Snow accumulations 1-2" by evening.  Wind: S/NE 5-15.  High: 33.

New Year's Eve:  Cloudy with light snow turning to flurries after midnight.  Light accumulations of less than 1" possible.  Total Snow accumulations 1-3", heavier amounts north of Wichita.  Wind: N 10-15.  Low: 17.

New Year's Day:  High:  25   Morning flurries, then mostly cloudy.
Wed:  High:  33  Low: 13   Partly cloudy.
Thu:  High:  30  Low: 17   Partly cloudy.
Fri:  High:  36  Low: 14   Mostly cloudy.
Sat:  High:  42  Low: 19   Mostly sunny

Sun:  High:  40  Low: 17   Partly cloudy to mostly cloudy.
