A storm system approaching Kansas today will crank up the south winds, expect speeds of 25-35 mph with some gusts to 45 mph. A Wind Advisory is in effect for all of western and central Kansas. Statewide highs will reach the upper 40s and 50s.
There will be a few rain showers in central Kansas early in the afternoon. More widespread showers and thunderstorms will develop in the west late in the afternoon and spread eastward overnight. Isolated stronger storms could produce winds up to 50 mph and some small hail, however severe storms are not expected with this system across Kansas.
There will also be a chance for some light snow in far northwest Kansas overnight into early Sunday morning. Any accumulation will be very light, under an inch. Blowing snow is likely with wind gusts approaching 50 m.p.h. Skies will becoming mostly sunny by Sunday afternoon and highs will range from 30s and 40s in the west to the 50s in the east.
The weather next week looks quiet through Thursday.
